TRUST IN THE UNSEEN BY SETH MULLINS - VIRTUAL TOUR + GIVEAWAY

Trust in the Unseen
by Seth Mullins

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
Following the rigors of their self-made tour of the West, the members of the groundbreaking and volatile band Edge of the Known - "hands down, craziest band on Earth" - have an unprecedented chance to finally expose their music to the world. Unfortunately, singer/guitarist Brandon Chane, founder member and erratic genius of the group, is weathering a spiraling trip through an abyss of heartbreak and despair.
His personal pain threatens to derail his band's progress even as it fuels some of its most incendiary songs. To further complicate matters, his mentor, Saul Mason, is weathering his personal crisis and no longer seems to be the all-knowing spiritual savant that Brandon first perceived him to be.
The road ahead looks bleak; and once more, he turns to the one thing that has sustained him throughout the course of his wounded, conflicted and inspired life: His Muse.
"We'd all thrown our fates to the wind, trusting in the unknown - in the Unseen, as our EP so proudly proclaimed - and that leap had thus far landed us in a place where we couldn't even grope our way forward in the dark anymore."
Discovering his voice was only the first step of the journey. Now he must somehow learn to trust the depths from which it comes, and the unknown horizons that it may sweep him away to, even as every part of his personal world seems to be falling apart.
I gazed down at the street below and felt the whole spinning and sickening free-fall that could bring me to kiss that pavement. A couple walked by, hand in hand, oblivious to the clamor of Armageddon. I gave up in that moment. I couldn’t stop her. The gods had granted Janie complete executive power over my damned soul.
Her heart was turning away, shining its light elsewhere? I was never going to touch her again? Suddenly the fall from the balcony seemed the much kinder terror.
“You need someone who can really meet you in those places. And I…”
“Don’t!” I managed. “Don’t act like you’re doing this for my sake. I can decide what’s good for me!”
“Fair enough.” Her voice was wispy, insubstantial: An echo of the distance that had already claimed us. “I need to feel like I can keep up.
“It’s like… you’re living in this world that’s being totally reinvented every day. And I’m sort of stumbling along trying to figure out what the rules are.”
“There aren’t any rules!” I protested. “Just be with me, and…”
“I can’t.”
Janie bit her lip. One fat tear slid down her cheek. I doubt that she’d wanted to say it so bluntly. But what gentle way is there?
Folding chairs, and a wooden rail rife with splinters; cigarette smoke lingering in the still spring air. Nothing there to cling to, to spare me from the plunge.
This can’t be happening!
I’d once told her that if it ever came to this I would understand. I’d been a goddamn liar. The death of something so beautiful and divinely inevitable could never be understood; it was incomprehensible.
Janie reached over and squeezed my arm. “Hey. I do treasure what we’ve shared.”
“Then don’t turn your back on it and let it die!” I growled. I could feel my face curling into a snarl. I couldn’t stop it. Janie withdrew. Having lost the focal point of my anger, I reverted to teetering on the edge of the precipice.
“I really tried, Brandon,” she said.
It was that voice both forlorn and resolute, and every man hears his end in it.
… Jag Sanchez bolted upright in his bed, gasping for air. As he caught his breath, he stared at the wall ahead, not realizing he was sweating but very aware that every part of him was trembling. He ran a hand over his face and shut his eyes tightly.
That voice. That voice had been haunting his dreams for the last nine months, since . . .
He looked at his phone beside his bed and yelped when he saw the time. Late for school, again. He leapt out of bed and stumbled around his room as he got ready then grabbed his bag and flew down the stairs toward the front door, not bothering to stop for breakfast. How was it that he lived only five minutes from the high school but was constantly late, even when he put his alarm on?
TWO PRINCES: THE BIKER AND THE BILLIONAIRE BY VICTORIA DANANN - VIRTUAL TOUR + GIVEAWAY
Two Princes: The Biker and the Billionaire
by Victoria Danann
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:
Two brothers, one a player, one a playboy, are on a collision course with destiny and a woman who thought she won a prize when she was allowed a look inside the Sons of Sanctuary MC.

Brigid Roan is a graduate student at the University of Texas. She had no trouble getting her thesis approved, but finding a Hill Country motorcycle club willing to give her access to their lifestyle was looking impossible. Then she got a lead. A friend of a friend had a cousin with family ties to The Sons of Sanctuary.

What Brigid wanted was information to prove a proposition. The last thing she had in mind was falling for one of the members of the club. Especially since she was a feminist academic out to prove that motorcycle clubs are organized according to the same structure as primitive tribal society.

Brash Fornight was standing in line at the H.E.B. Market when his world tipped on its axis. While waiting his turn to check out, his gaze had wandered to the magazine display and settled on the new issue of “NOW”. The image on the cover, although GQ’d up in an insanely urbane way, was… him.

After reading the article, Brash threw some stuff in a duffle and left his only home, a room at The Sons of Sanctuary clubhouse, with a vague explanation about needing a couple of days away. He left his truck at the Austin airport and caught a plane for New York, on a mission to find a mysterious guy walking around with his face.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
“Sir?” Brash Fornight gradually became aware that someone behind him in the grocery checkout line was trying to get his attention. “Sir?” He refocused and glanced behind him. The woman leaning on a cart overflowing with chip bags and cookie boxes nodded toward the cashier indicating that it was his turn to move forward. Brash looked her in the eye and had to give her props. Most people wouldn’t have the balls to try to herd a guy wearing Sons of Sanctuary MC leather.
The club employed a woman who cooked and did grocery shopping several times a week as part of her job description, but Brash didn’t like to explain his relentless craving for peanuts and he liked being teased about it even less. He didn’t know whether it was the Vitamin B or the fat or just because he liked the taste, but he couldn’t imagine going a day without them.
That’s how he came to be standing statue still In the grocery checkout line, being prompted by some woman with more nerve than sense. While he was waiting, his eyes drifted over the magazine display and settled on the cover of “NOW”, on the Most Eligible Bachelor edition no less. The debonair figure staring back was wearing Brash’s own face and body. He looked different with short hair and a four thousand dollar suit with the shirt fashionably open at the neckline, but the similarity was inescapable.
On impulse he grabbed the magazine and tossed it onto the conveyor belt with his week’s stash of peanuts.
He stuffed the bags into the saddlebags of his bike and roared toward home, nervously tapping his fingers on handlebars at red lights, riding on shoulders to keep from slowing down. He was anxious to get to the privacy of his own room and read about Branach St. Germaine.
Two beers, one jar of peanuts, and one “NOW” article later, Brash was sitting on the edge of his bed looking at the wall, seeing nothing but his own heavy thoughts. He pulled out his phone, looked up a website, and waited on hold for ten minutes to hear the time of the next flight from Austin to New York.
There was a flight to Newark in a little over three hours. He looked at his watch and calculated the time it would take to drive from Dripping Springs at that time of day. As he booked the flight, he stood up, walked to the small closet, grabbed a duffel bag, and began shoving stuff into it. Ten minutes later, he closed his door and locked it, threw the duffel over his shoulder, and headed straight for the office downstairs. He dropped the duffel on the hallway floor beside the closed door and knocked.
“Yeah?” Brash looked inside, glad that his dad was by himself, and stepped in. “What’s up?”
“I’m takin’ personal time, Pop. Gonna be gone for a couple of days.”
“What the hell is ‘personal time’?”
The gruffness made Brash smile. “It means I’m not gonna be here if you call and I’m not tellin’ you why.”
The Sons of Sanctuary President looked up at Brash, over the top of his readers, and narrowed his eyes. “You got a secret?”
“Everybody’s got secrets.”
Brandon Fornight studied his son for a minute. “True enough. Is it the kind of secret that could affect this club?”
Brash shook his head. “Don’t see how.”
“Well, then. See you… When did you say you’d be back?”
“I didn’t.”
“Bein’ purposefully vague, are you?”
Brash grinned. “That’s why they call it personal time. But I expect to be back Friday.”
“You gonna have your phone with you?” When Brash nodded, Bran looked back down at his ledger in a deliberately dismissive gesture. “Well, get outta here then.”
Brash parked his bike in the airplane hangar. The structure had already been on the property when the club had bought it and turned it into a compound twenty years earlier. They used part of it for vehicle maintenance and repair and part for parking.
Some of the guys who were working looked over and shot curious glances his way when Brash threw his duffel into his pickup and started it up, but it wasn’t their way to ask questions. The Sons figured that if somebody wanted you to know something, they’d tell you.
Brash took a cab to a midtown hotel, wondering all the way why human beings would choose to live in such a place. As he slid his credit card across the hotel counter to the agent on duty, he glanced at the name, Brandon Fornight. It seemed unlikely that it was a coincidence that that the mysterious look-alike’s first name began with the same four letters. He ordered room service and pulled out his laptop.
Getting intel on the guy didn’t take advanced ops. Within an hour Brash knew where Brannach St. Germaine worked, what kind of car he drove, what kind of women he dated, who his tailor was, and where he liked to dine. There was no shortage of photos online, but the one that grabbed his attention wasn’t one of the many with starlets or debutantes on his arm. It was the one taken with his arm around his mother as they were arriving together for some red carpet fundraiser. Brash had an almost irresistible compulsion to reach up and touch her face on the screen in front of him.
The knock on the door signaled that room service had arrived. It cost a fortune, but looked and tasted like shit. So he closed the computer and went out for a walk to clear his head and find something edible.
LOOKING FOR CHARLOTTE BY JENNIFER YOUNG - VIRTUAL TOUR & REVIEW + GIVEAWAY
Looking for Charlotte
by Jennifer Young
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Divorced and lonely, Flora Wilson is distraught when she hears news of the death of little Charlotte Anderson. Charlotte’s father killed her and then himself, and although he left a letter with clues to her grave, his two-year-old daughter still hasn’t been found. Convinced that she failed her own children, now grown up and seldom at home, Flora embarks on a quest to find Charlotte’s body to give the child’s mother closure, believing that by doing so she can somehow atone for her own failings.

As she hunts in winter through the remote moors of the Scottish Highlands, her obsession comes to challenge the very fabric of her life — her job, her friendship with her colleague Philip Metcalfe, and her relationships with her three children.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
She thought she knew the place where Alastair Anderson had left his car, and found it easily enough. Under her fingers the map was a flat web of never-parallel lines, of ugly pock-marking that told of steep, loose rocks and inhospitable terrain, just the type of place they used to walk. Somewhere up here, Charlotte Anderson was buried. Carried there, already dead? Or walked there and then killed? Surely neither was realistic; surely they would have found her, with their dogs and their mountain rescue helicopters scouring the ground for new scars, and all the rest of the equipment they had at their disposal.
Looking at the map had been a mistake. It was obvious now. Besides, she couldn’t see it any more; all she could see was the image of Suzanne Beauchamp, that beautiful face with the cold façade, like a wax death mask from Madame Tussaud’s. More poignant, of course, since it must hide a struggle, a struggle to conceal or to suppress a deadly mixture of grief and guilt.
‘Go away!’ she said softly to this mirage of a grieving woman, a little afraid of its power. ‘Go away!’ And then, in the only defence left to her, she began to fold the map away.
MY REVIEW
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Looking For Charlotte it's a wonderful novel, the story is about two women dealing with their personal losses, and looking to move forward with their life.
As I began reading, I felt Flora's loneliness and sadness, it hit me deeply in my bones see how she was trying to deal with the absence of her three children, and also looking for love in her male friend, Phillip.
Suzanne is a young women who lost her child in a tragic way, and is also dealing with closing the past and moving forward. The only way that this two women carry on with their life, it's the finding of Charlotte's body?.
Amazingly written, the story is fast paced, with so much complexity in the characters and situations, that will keep you guessing what's going to happen next??
Highly Recommended
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

“You want a lollypop, little girl?” the man in the robe and headdress asked in accented English, startling Stephanie. He had a grumbling voice, like a truck going up a hill in low gear. He was huge. Stephanie had been so caught up in the unfolding drama between the lady bug and the spider she hadn’t seen him approach. Dressed all in white, the man stood out in the festival crowd wearing shorts and a T-shirt like a hippo on a ski slope. A friendly Arab tourist, Stephanie thought. She decided to be careful, anyway. Her mother had warned her about sexual predators before leaving with Stephanie’s twin sister Sophia to browse around the starving artists’ show on the other side of the park.

“Don’t talk to anyone,” were her mother‘s parting words. “And don’t accept candy from strangers!”

“No, thank you,” Stephanie said and turned her attention back to the captivating scene.

 “Here!” The man waved a hand in front of her face, obstructing her view. “Take it, little girl.”

This was the second time the man had called her a little girl. Stephanie hated to be called a little girl, especially by a stranger on the street. She was ten years old already, a big girl! She scowled at the intruder. Who are you, creep?  First you barge in on me, and then you insult me.

“No,” she said, a hard edge on her words now. “Didn’t you hear me the first time?”

The man shrugged as if he didn’t care and pocketed the candy. Stephanie stepped to one side in an effort to have a better view. Again, she focused on the awesome scene she’d been watching in the azalea shrub before the man showed up: a spider trying to catch a lady bug. The stranger moved closer, and his body odor wafted after him – a pungent mixture of rancid sweat and poor hygiene. Phew!

She wrinkled her nose. The man stood next to her, not talking. Stephanie did her best to ignore him.

She watched the spider expand its web till the outer strands were nearly touching the lady bug. Unaware of the danger, the beetle was busily extracting the sweet nectar off a bright-red azalea. Stephanie’s heartbeat quickened. She had a camera inside the tote bag hanging from her shoulder and was tempted to snap a quick photo to capture the moment, but decided against it. She didn’t want to risk scaring the lady bug away.

Stephanie exhaled slowly and tried to memorize every detail of the scene. The lady bug had the typical orange-red oval body with black dots and a curious ebony head. It was a fine specimen, larger than most. The spider’s color was nearly indistinguishable from the deep-green of the azalea leaves.

“That nasty spider is going to eat the pretty insect,” the man whispered into Stephanie’s ear. “She’s mean, that spider.”

Stephanie had forgotten about the man. He had bad breath, too. She felt like screaming at him now for being so ignorant. Her sister Sophia had a special name for grown-ups like the man with the weird headdress: “People who live in la-la land.”

“That nasty spider is a garden orb-weaver!” She wanted to yell. “And the pretty insect is a lady bug!”

Stephanie liked to read anything she could get her hands on about insects and bugs. Her dislike of the man grew with his ignorance. Besides, he was treating her like a dumb little girl, which infuriated her even more. She gave him a closer look. He was brown skinned and had a black goatee sprinkled with silver. She remembered him now. He had been standing under a tree by the crowded sidewalk when they arrived at the park.

“Where’s your mama, little girl?”

“I’m not a little girl,” Stephanie said. “I’m a big girl.”

The man gave her a broad smile. “How old are you?”

“None of your business.”

The man’s smile vanished. Stephanie held her breath as the orb-weaver’s web expanded closer still to the lady bug.

“Yes, you’re a big girl. When is Mama coming back?”

“Any moment now.”

“Where is her?”

She, Stephanie corrected the grammar in her mind and emphasized the word when she answered. “She is shopping with my sister.”

“Where?”

Without looking at the man, she pointed to the center of the park where the starving artists’ art show was being held. It was so crammed with onlookers that it was impossible to see the tents protecting the artists, and their art, from the harsh sun.

“Your mama left you all alone?”

“She’ll be right back.” Stephanie gave a small shrug and pointed with her chin to the spider and the lady bug. “I prefer insects to art.”

“You’re an odd girl.” The man glanced to the park and then back to Stephanie. “Smart.”

He gave her a crooked smile that flashed a couple of gold teeth, then extracted a cell phone from his clothes and punched a number. Stephanie turned her head away. She heard the man squawk something into the phone and then snap it shut. She flinched at the sound.

A moment or two later a white van turned the corner and rocketed down the narrow street, scattering passers-by and distracting Stephanie. The street was packed with people, and the van was moving too fast. A woman with a shrill voice screamed “idiot!” and a man bellowed “watch it!”  The driver ignored them, leaning on the horn. He brought the van to a full stop with a screeching of brakes two yards away from Stephanie, raced to the back, and flung open both doors. He was a thin man with a beard and a hat like those of the man standing next to her.

Stephanie was momentarily sidetracked and a warning alarm went off in her mind, but the lure of the drama between the orb-weaver spider and the lady bug was too powerful. She returned her attention to the spider just in time to see a strand touch the beetle. She drew in short, shallow breaths. Stephanie knew the strand had a powerful sticky substance that wouldn’t allow the beetle to move. The poor lady bug was trapped.

“Little girl,” the man yelled in her ear. Stephanie smelled his foul breath.

“I’m not a little girl!” She spun around.

The man clamped a dirty handkerchief on her nose with his calloused hand. In a panic now, Stephanie held her breath and tried to run away, but the man lifted her off the ground with his powerful arms and rushed her toward the open door of the van. She tried kicking at him, but the man held her from behind.

“Breathe, you little bitch,” the man murmured in her ear. “Breathe!”

Stephanie struggled, shaking her head stubbornly.

“Breathe!”

Stephanie couldn’t hold it anymore. Her ears were ringing and her lungs were burning. She took a cautious, little breath. Immediately, she felt lightheaded. The strong smell of the handkerchief, like rotten alcohol, made her eyes tear. The world started whirling around her, slowly at first and then faster and faster. She took another breath, deeper this time, and her eyelids started closing.

She felt herself being thrown, like a package, inside the van. Her body bounced hard on the rough floor and rolled to a stop, but Stephanie felt no pain. She tried with all her might to get up, but her arms and legs felt like limp noodles. Tiny black stars rushed at her from the edges of her vision. The last thing she saw before darkness totally enveloped her was the man with the weird headdress slamming shut the van doors.

EXCERPT

I pedaled hard against the feeling of the day. After all these years. The morning air pulled up goose bumps on my arms. I pushed harder. A patrol car passed me. A station wagon pulling a fishing boat went the other way, a sleepy father at the wheel. Two sons stared at me from the back seat. As a boy, Adam had loved to fish with his uncle Paul. He would have adored fishing with his father. I squeezed my eyes shut at the memory of Greg in the back of that damned ancient rowboat. He’d found it wrecked and abandoned and had spent the spring of our junior year in high school patching it. Crusty glue had built up on his fingers, and I still remembered the scrape across my skin.

I turned onto the cliff road. As a truck rushed by, a spray of gravel bit my leg. The hill grew steeper. My legs began to ache. My breath came in gasps. Old and out of shape. When we were young, we flew up the hill, arriving at the park sweaty and laughing. Now I was inching along. Alone. I gave up, got off the bike, and walked it to the turnoff, ignoring the rush of wind and dust that whirled around me with each passing car.

This early in the morning the picnic tables were all empty. Beyond the cliff, sunlight colored the lake slate blue. I walked to the cliff edge, dropped my bike, and sat on the dew-wet grass. July 29th. I pulled up a handful of dirt and tossed it, watching the clod break up as it fell. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Twenty-four years ago. Soon I would officially have been a widow for half my life. Ten thirty-seven New York time was still a few hours away. I lay back on the grass. A single puffy cloud drifted from the west. For a moment I imagined I could see Greg’s face in the cloud. Except I couldn’t quite remember what he looked like.

EXCERPT

“I’m expecting someone,” Ellen told John.

“Who?” A flush crept up John’s neck. He was jealous. Good.

Still, why won’t he just leave? Her skin prickled just at the thought of being held by him again. She had to make him leave.

 “A date.” She leaned down to straighten the magazines on her coffee table and was aware he surveyed every curve of her body. Her own body was alive with energy. Her right shoulder rolled back in an almost feline movement, and his gaze followed. Deep in her solar plexus, she had already grasped what her mind was just comprehending: the desire, the complete befuddlement when he was near her was true for him, too. At least for now. In this moment. And with this realization an intoxicating power erupted inside her. The manipulator could be manipulated. Like a child with matches, she suddenly had the compulsion to watch him burn.

She gave him a satisfied look. “I have a date with Harold.”

“How can you be interested in that sycophantic—”

“He’s perfectly nice and attractive and accomplished.”

John scowled and dropped into her Queen Anne chair.

She sashayed right up to him. His gaze filled her with a palpable electricity. A giddiness whirled through her mind. Ah, this was why her mother enjoyed flirtation so much. Ellen was no coquette; what she was feeling was warm and primal from deep within. Yet tease oozed from her. She leaned toward him. His eyes widened as the bodice of her dress gapped open, revealing a hint of white bra. “What do you want?”

“Oh, God, Ellie.”

She gazed into John’s marine-blue eyes with flecks of gray, like rain clouds. His shoulders moved with each of his deep breaths. And before she could stop herself, she flung her arms around his neck and pulled him so close that her lips tingled from his breath. She gave him a hot, lingering kiss.

He took hold of her and pulled her onto his lap. Her right hand played with a red lock at the nape of his neck while her other hand ran up and down his muscular arm. All the while the kiss grew deeper, her mind lost in the sensation of him, his taste, his feel and the tightness in her own body begged for more.

The appalling chime of her doorbell sounded, ringing her out of their embrace. “Oh.” She jumped to her feet. “It’s Harold.”

John let out a small grunt, and he shifted in the chair.

She began to pace. What an idiot! She couldn’t believe she had almost been caught in a web of her own making. What had possessed her? She looked at John and groaned inside. It was a compulsion, that was it, or hypnotism. Whatever it was, thank goodness for clichés, because she’d just been saved by the bell.

John stood, and as if he were a magnet, she stopped pacing until she was right in front of him. He caressed her arms. “Ignore him.”

She threw off his hands. “No, no, no. No! He’s good, you’re bad. I’m ignoring you. Ignoring this.”

“Hey, I didn’t make that kiss happen. You did, and it was great.” His throaty baritone voice was both soothing and sexy.

“Fine, I made it happen, and now I’m making it not happen.”

“Ellen.”

“I have a date.” She was reminding herself of that fact as much as him.

He stepped in closer. “Sure. Go ahead.”

“You’re smirking.” Still, she didn’t move. “You are such an egotist.”

She wanted to move, she planned to move, she didn’t move.

EXCERPT:

Work was busy this evening and it was a welcome distraction. I worked as a waitress with Ebony at the Burger Grill. It was a small, family-owned diner. It had been around for over forty years. Ebony had gotten me on a few weeks ago.

“How was your day?” Ebony asked as we were putting our aprons on.

“I’m getting used to the flow of school. How was yours?”

“It will be better once this shift is over. I’m bloated and cramping today.”

“Did you take some medicine?”

“Yes, but it hasn’t kicked in yet. Any luck with J?”

“Not sure. We talked some.”

“At least he is talking with you. It’s a good sign.”

“I hope so.”

“People are getting seated in our sections. We’d better get to our tables,” she said.

We tended to our tables, and around an hour later, Ebony tapped me on my shoulder.

“Look what the cat dragged in. I sat him in your section,” she said and giggled. I saw Jason across the room, sitting with his brother and sister.

“Thanks a lot,” I said, sarcastically. Now I would have to face him again.

“You’re welcome,” she replied still laughing and walked off.

I took in a deep breath and went to their table.

“Hi guys, I’m Melanie. What can I get for you this evening?”

Jason looked up in surprise and blushed slightly, making my stomach do a somersault. Their sister said, “Hi Melanie. We get to formally meet now, I’m Harmony. And I will have a Coke.”
She and her brother did look exactly alike. “Are you guys twins?” I blurted out.

“Yes,” her brother replied. “Nice to meet you, Melanie. I’m Jaden. How do you like Cashmere so far?”

“It’s okay, but slightly different from school in Australia.”

“I love your accent,” Jaden said.

“Thanks.” Jaden was handsome, but his brother was gorgeous.

“Melanie, how long have you been working here? My siblings and I come here often,” Jason interrupted and appeared to give his brother an evil glare.

“For just a few weeks.”

 He looked like wanted to ask something else but didn’t.

“What can I get you guys to drink?” I didn’t want to stand there making goo-goo eyes at him.

“I will have a Coke,” Jaden said.

“And I will have a Sprite,” Jason replied.

“Coming right up.”

I brought them back their drinks, took their food order, and took care of my other tables. A little while later Ebony stood next to me, waiting on her order.

“I’ve noticed he keeps staring at you.”

“Who?”

“You know who. Jason.”

“Don’t you have tables to tend to?” I replied playfully.

“I just thought you should know.”

She winked at me and took her food order. He was eating a French fry. Gosh, he even looked sexy doing that. He caught my eye and signaled for me to come over.

“We’d like the check, please,” Harmony said.

“Sure,” I answered, pulling out the bill and placing it on the table.

“So Melanie, are you seeing anyone?” Jaden asked.

Excuse me! He was very direct. I had just met him. Harmony giggled, and Jason turned red. I cleared my throat. “No, not at the moment. Why?”

“Maybe we can hang out sometimes,” he replied with a smile. He leaned back and folded his arms behind his head, waiting for an answer. Harmony was amused, and Jason looked aggravated.

“Um no. Absolutely not.”

“Geez, well why not?”

“Because Ebony’s my friend first off, and second, I have my eye on someone else.”

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know you guys were friends,” he replied, looking remorseful.

“Yeah, we are good friends,” I said, walking off.

I went to the kitchen and glanced back at their table. Harmony and Jason were laughing. Jaden appeared annoyed. Served him right. It was obvious he thought he was Mr. Casanova.

“What was Jaden talking to you about?” Ebony asked.

“Nothing much, the usual. He noticed my accent and wondered where I was from,” I lied. I wasn’t about to tell her he was flirting. He did apologize when he realized we were friends though, so maybe he wasn’t a total douche. I glanced back over to my section, but they were gone.

*  *  *
After my shift I stopped at the corner store. There were only a few cars in the parking lot, and no one in sight. I headed to my car, and hit the alarm. Before I could get the door open someone grabbed me from behind. I struggled against them, and fought with all my might, but he dragged me into the side alley. Another person charged from the side, and then something hit me in the head. I fell to the ground, and touched my throbbing wound. It was dark with only the side light from the building, so I couldn’t see the blood clearly. But I could feel the liquid stickiness on my fingers. I squinted in the dim light, straining to see my attackers, but I couldn’t see any facial features. They were blurry. They appeared to be males with short hair, and their broad body frame.

“Leave me alone!”

One man’s response was a kick to my stomach. I gasped and cringed in pain. Why was this happening to me? I had been told that burglaries and assault hardly ever happened on this side of town. Me and my rotten luck were going to make the crime rate sky rocket. Taking a deep breath, I gathered my courage, and tried to get up. One of the men pushed me back down. I saw an object in his hand, the silver color bounced off of the light. It was a knife. I had to find a way out of this. Heat pulsed through my body as I glared into his eyes. And fear consumed me with the black depths of them, dark as midnight. The other man held me down, and I fought to get out of his grasp. The one with the blade leaned closer to me. He didn’t have on a mask, but I still couldn’t make out his features. He was faceless. He thrust the blade against my neck. The pain was sharp, and tears sprang into my eyes.

“Please stop! Why are you doing this?”

He snorted. “Because the greater good has preordained it.”

Before I could contemplate his strange explanation he slit the knife against my throat.

MY REVIEW

Melanie's Evanescent Journey (The Sonar Trilogy, #1.5)Melanie's Evanescent Journey by B. Truly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Melanie's Evanescent Journey is a YA paranormal type of book, I haven't read any other book of this series, so I was clueless with what was the main paranormal factor in the story. Vampires? Werewolves? Aliens? shifter? None of that?
Well, our main character is Melanie a teenager, acting like a girl, she follows her heart and makes mistakes, sometimes acts like a little girl, but I found that credible, because that's what you can expect of a 17 yr old. The male character, Jason, at first is like any typical boy, until he became something more...
The plot it has a recurrent thing all through the pages, mystery. The story is full of twists and turns, heartbreak, a lot of pain and the journey of self discovery.
I must say that I enjoyed reading this book.

I have very vivid dreams and a wild imagination. I like to read, watch tons of TV shows, and movies. I’m addicted to romance and get a thrill out of action and suspense. I write New Adult Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Paranormal-Romance.

In the Sonar series it was fun to explore different elements of Sci-fi romance and create various realms of powers for my characters. I want to show my readers that Sci-fi can be fun, but also traumatic. I hope you guys enjoy the Sonar Series.
